Death Claims Pioneer of Williams
Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, 86, niece of William H. Williams, the founder of the City of Williams, Colusa County, California, passed away yesterday , July 15, 1942, after ailing for some time from the infirmities of old age. She spent a long and useful life in and near Williams.
Last rites for the near nonagenarian will take place from the Williams Community Church of which she was a life long member and ardent worker, next Saturday at 10:30 o'clock and interment will be in the family plot in Williams Cemetery with J. D. McNary and son in charge of the arrangements. The following acted as pall bearers: Charles Blevins, Charles Schaad, Herbert Rathbun, Floyd Kidd, Hugh Lynch, and Elbert A. Brim.
Born Near Williams
The widely known and venerated mother of nine, eight of whom survive, was born near Williams, October 13, 1856, and was married to William Tolson Brown on June 28, 1882. He died in Williams on September 11, 1917.
The deceased was a charter member of Pearl Rebekah Lodge No. 181 of Odd Fellows of Williams, and which was instituted in 1892. She was also a past noble grand of the lodge.
Was Daughter of Pioneers
She was the daughter of Williams pioneers, Alex and Louisa Miller, who crossed the plains in covered wagons in the early days of the west.
The surviving children are: Steve Brown of Colusa, Ernest Brown of Los Angeles, Lloyd M. Brown of Sacramento, Clifford D. Brown of Corte Madera, Mrs. Bessie Harbison of Colusa, Homer G. Brown of Williams, Mrs. Annie Conner of Lookout, Modoc County, and Mrs. Leola Sevier of Sacramento. There are also surviving 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
