He served in the SD Army National Guard, the US Marine Corps, & US Army from 1950 to 1974, in Korea, Hawaii, Ft Benning GA, 02 tours in Germany, 02 in Vietnam, & Ft Polk LA, retiring at rank of First Sergeant; rec'd Bronze Star Medal in 1970.
Survivors include his wife, Linda CUNY-STANLEY of Silverdale WA, 07 step-chr: Martha CONRAD, Sybil CLARK, Fred & Bret DRAVES, Jill RASBAND, Jane WILSON & Angela HALL; 12 gr'chr, 09 gt'gr'chr (not named, bros: Chris R "Bob" (Ruth) MECHLING & Paul (Della) MECHLING, nieces & nephews.
Preceding him were parents, bro: John W "Bill" MECHLING & wife Juanita SASSER HOWARD.
