Religious Figure, Educator. He was a well-known evangelical Presbyterian minister, who was one of the key leaders of the so-called Great Awakening that stirred immense religious impetus in the American colonies in the mid-1700s. This rival broke the colonists from the Church of England. He was known for his sermons. He went to England to raised funds for the creation of what became known as Princeton University and served as the university's fourth president, from 1759 until his death at age thirty-seven. He wrote Christian poetry and hymns.
