William Cox was the son of Abraham "Abram" Cox II and Harriett Jemima Mills Cox and brother of Abram. He married Emeline McCoy on August 30, 1849, in Craven County, NC. Their known children at this time are, Lafayette Fate" Cox-1851–1922, Laura Louisa Cox-1854–1923, Edith Laree Cox-1857–1930, Harriett Ann Cox-1858–1938, and Abraham "Abram" F Cox-1863–1934
