Jesse Olvera, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his home, with his children at his side.
He was born November 29, 1920, in St. Joseph, son of AltaGracia and Daniel Olvera.
He married Consuelo Lopez on April 12, 1947, and they were married for 65 years. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2012.
He served in the Army in Fort Richardson, Alaska, the Aleutian Islands Campaign, and is a veteran of the World War II.
For his service, he was awarded the American Service Ribbon with Bronze Star and five overseas bars. He worked at Swift and Company for 25 years, and afterwards, he worked at Sherwood Medical, Westab and retired from Helen Davis State School.
He was a past member of the St. James Holy Name Society, Guadalupana's and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 359, where he served as Chaplain.
He was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church, serving as an usher.
Jesse was preceded in death by wife, Consuelo C. Olvera; his parents; a sister, Dolores Brown and two brothers, Ramon Olvera and Esequiel (Cledo) Olvera.
Survivors include two sons, Jesus L. Olvera and wife, Barbara and Mark Olvera and wife, Kathy; two daughters, Amelia Bravo and husband, Leo, all of St. Joseph and Sylvia Lowrance and husband, James of Marshalltown, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Daniel (Stephanie) Olvera, Jamie (Chris) Henze, Michael (Heather) Olvera, Carlos (Jill) Olvera, Christopher Lowrance (Janette Aquilar), Amy (Nate) Barron, Donald Prior, MaryGrace (Scott) Brouhard, Geoffrey Prior, Sean Olvera and Kyle Olvera and 16 great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the St. James Catholic Church, Father Evan Harkins and Fr. Joseph Totton, Con-Celebrants.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Rupp Funeral Home.
The interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
