Shane went to hundreds of cemeteries with me over the years,he helped transcribe and on occasion took photos with me.He recently took a liking to History and I was so happy to be his guide to numerous battlefields, Shiloh, Corinth, Blakeley, Ringgold, Chickamunga, Springhill, Franklin and many other historic sites. We always shared a good meal on our many road trips, which ended when he recieved the news he had cancer of the tongue and throat. He lost the ability to speak or eat and our trips ended. Our last trip he could not get out of the car,but I took my yearly fall color photos that I will cherish as our last gravin' trip together,I will someday place his cremains in that cemetery.Shane and I spent our last day together as we had nineteen times before-watching the Detroit Lions play on Thanksgiving.Even though he did not know I was there I couldn't break tradition and I was so thankful for the years we'd been given together . Father of three children, one daughter and two sons, one grandson. Shane donated his very very long hair to Locks of Love two weeks before he died.
'I've been around this world,
Yet I see no end,
All shall fade to black again and again,
This storm that's broken me,
My only friend.
In this river all shall fade to black,
In this river ain't no coming back,
In this river all shall fade to black,
Ain't no coming back.
Withdrawn I step away,
Just to find myself,
The door is closed again,
The only one left,
This storm that's broken me,
My only friend."
