George Shelby Wylie

Died: March 27, 2015

Benton, LA – George Shelby Wylie of Shreveport and Benton, LA passed away on Friday, March 27th, at his home and entered the Kingdom of his Lord. He was a member of Shreve City Baptist Church. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015, in the Chapel of Osborn Funeral Home.

Mr. Wylie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters all from Arkansas. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lorimer Wylie; daughter, Kathy Miller and husband, Dave, grandsons, David Hanson and wife, Renee and Jonathan Hanson and wife, Katarina; great-grandchildren, Logan, Audrey and Deacon Hanson; and brother, Rolfe Wylie.

Mr. Wylie entered the service after high school in 1937 and served during WWII. He was captured during the battle of Bataan and was a POW from April 1942 until August 1945. After his return he continued serving in the Air Force and retired in 1965 after 28 years.

Mr. Wylie worked as a machinist after his service days. He was known as a very humble and faithful man of God who loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank his special caregivers of many years, Alberta Small, Peggy Williams, Charity Small and VA Home Health nurse, Mary Howell.
