A West Shore Brakeman Killed.
SYRACUSE, N. Y., Dec. 13.--Frederick G. Sellwood, a brakeman, jumped from a moving car in the West Shore yard here yesterday morning, stumbled, fell on the track and was run over, sustaining injuries from which he died a couple of hours later.

Fred Sellwood, brakeman on the West Shore jumped from a running train at Syracuse, Monday, rolled under the wheels and was killed.

HIS FATAL STUMBLE
The Terrible Accident to Brakeman F. G. Sellwood
Frederick G. Sellwood was coupling cars in the West Shore yard at noon Monday. The snifator engine No. 106 Frank Herrick, was attached to a flat car that was to be run on a sudlog. Sellwood was on the car and when he reached a point about midway between McBride and Catharine streets he jumped, intending to run ahead and turn the switch. He jumped from the forward end of the car, but stumbled and fell. Before he could pick himself up he was struck by the forward truck of the car and pushed along nearly two rods to a point where two rails came together in a switch. Here his body became wedged between the rails. Had the train been moving with much speed his body would have been horribly mangled. As it was, his right thigh and left ankle were crushed and he had a scalp wound. It is thought that he was also injured internally. He was first taken to McGurg's saloon at the McBride street crossing of the West Shore road. McCarthy's ambulance soon reached the place and transferred the dying man to his home at No. 93 Burnet street. Doctors Fry and Doyle administered stimulants that restored him to consciousness.

Sellwood was about 20 years of age and has been a brakeman on the West Shore road at different times in the last two years. His father Enos G. Sellwood died about two years ago. His mother survives him.

Sellwood died at 2 p.m.

DIED
SELLWOOD-In this city, December 12, 1887. Frederick G., eldest son of Honor and the later Enos G. Sellwood, age 18 years, 2 months and 7 days.
Funeral services Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence of his mother. No. 93 Burnet Street. Friends and acquaintances are invited.
