Death Summons W. U. Ellenberger, Local Merchant

Wilmer U. Ellenberger, 69, one of the town's well and favorabaley known residents, died at his home on Grant Street at 5:30 o'clock on Friday morning, March 15th, 1985.
On Monday, January 28th, 1935, Mr. Ellenberrger was stricken with an acute attack of appendicitis. He was immediately rushed to the Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois, PA, and a short time after being admitted to the institution, underwent an appendectomy, the operation disclosing that the appendix was ruptured. Complications developed and despite all efforts of attending physicians, he grew weaker gradually until death relieved his sufferings at the time stated above.
Wilmer Ulysses Ellenberger was born on a farm at Potts Run, Clearfield Co., Pa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Ellenberger on June 4th 1866. He remained on the farm until he was about seventeen year's of age and then came to Reynoldsville, where forty-eight years' ago, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Ann Byrne. house-keeper in this city and have continuosley resided here ever since.
A short time after locating in this place, Mr. Ellenberger entered the employ of the Reynoldsville Hardware Company as the firm's tinner, which position he held for more than a score of years. Later he served, for four years, as Street Commissioner of Reynoldsville, following which he opened, and had since conducted/ a confectionary store and shoe shining parlor. Of a pleasant disposition and by nature unpretentious, he was liked by all and his death, while not unexpected, has brought profound sorrow to his relatives and countless friends. For many years' past, Mr. Ellenberger had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Reynoldsville and was always actively interested in its affairs.
Mr. Ellenberger is survived by his wife and the following sons and daughters: Eugene, Merle, Burt, Francis, and Andrew Ellenberger, all of Reynoldsville: Dean of Akron, O., Kermit, of Mercer, Pa, Irene, wife of Arthur Engle, Mae, wife of Albert Engle, Martha, wife of Ivan Clark, all of this place, and Jane, wife of Dessie Brown of DuBois.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. C. Edgar Downing, assisted by the Rev. A. J. Meek of New Kensington, a former pastor of the church, officiating.
