| Birth: | Jul. 16, 1943 | | Death: | Mar. 6, 2005 | Radio Personality. Former BBC Radio 1 DJ. Began his career in America, on Los Angeles radio station KHJ, before working at pirate station Radio Caroline and BBC Radio 1. His real name was Richard Hope-Weston. He took his new name when he was offered a job at an American radio station. A new DJ called Tommy Vance had failed to turn up for a job, despite having been heavily promoted, and he was offered the job as long as he changed his name. His gravelly voice made him one of the most recognisable personalities on radio. He was a presenter on Radio 1 for fifteen years. (bio by: Bunny Boiler)
