He was a Free Will Baptist pastor for 33 years pastoring FOUR churches in South Carolina and one in North Carolina. He was ordained to preach at age 23 in September of 1968.He was an active denominational leader both in North and South Carolina and on a national level. He spoke twice at the national convention of Free Will Baptists. First in Louisville, Kentucky in 1981 and then in 1989 in Tampa, Florida. He was a skilled journalist and wrote Sunday school literature for Randall House Publications. He also served 15 years of the Board of Trustees at Free Will Baptist Bible College. He earned both a Bachelor's and Masters degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. He had one son, Rev. Chris Truett. He was a very versatile and talented Minister.
