OLDER CITIZEN OF AMORY AREA DIES AT TURON

One of the Amory areas' oldest residents, Mrs. Eliza Elliott, 92, dies last Wednesday, February 17, in her home in the Turon Community in the southeastern part of Itawamba County, just over the line from Monroe.
Services were held at Turon Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. M. L. Hollis, Free Will Baptist Church pastor of Amory. Burial was in the Wylie Cemetery, with Nabors Bros. Funeral Directors of Smithville, in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Elliott was affectionately known to many of her firneds as "Aunt Liza." She was one of the community's most highly regarded residents and many mourn her passing. She dies following an illness of several weeks.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. H. C. Silas and Mrs. Elborn Phillips, both of Turon community; three sons, Holston and Eugene Elliott, both of Turon, and Dr. Earl Elliott of Marion, Kentucky; and nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. (no date)
Pallbearers were: Russell Pierce, Dalton Prestridge, Albert Stephenson, A. J. Cole, T. L. Cowley and Earl Stevens.

She's Mrs. Eliza Elliott of Turon

Another Itawamba Countian over 90 years old was reported this week. Mrs. Eliza Thomas Elliott, 91 (?) of Turon makes the 17th on The Times'(The Itawamba County Times, Fulton, MS)list. Mrs. Elliott, the youngest child of the late John V. Thomas and Mrs. Martha Bourland Thomas, was born and reared in the old Cardsville Community and was a schoolmate of Uncle Joe Sandlin of Fulton and Aunt Mollie Green, who dies a few weeks ago. She has lived in the county her entire life except for ten years when she owned a store at Amory. She attended school at Enon and Old Van Buren.
Six children: Mrs. E. D. Phillips of Tremont; Dr. Earl Elliott of Lackey, KY; Mrs. H. C. Silas of Smithville; Miss Ruby Elliott of Smithville; Holston Elliott and Eugene Elliott of Smithville, Route 1. She also had nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. (Feb 14, 1952)
