Ben Dumas - The funeral service for Ben Dumas, who died in a local hospital at 5:45 Saturday afternoon, was held at the Elmo cemetery at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Steve Harwell conducting service. Active pallbearers were: Mann Hart, Virgil Ward, Bob Haycroft, Harley Roberson, Ross Calens, V. E. Coleman; all friends of the family were named as honorary pallbearers. Ben M. Dumas was a native of Magnolla, Anderson County, Texas, where he was born Nov 15, 1862. He married Miss Lizzie Williams in 1894. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Dumas, one brother, J. R. Dumas of Rockwall, a number of nephews and nieces, among whom are W. P. , Walter, Justin and Lawrence Dumas of Dallas, Lon of Elmo, Clark of New Orleans and Frank Dumas of Port Arthur. Miss Dorothy Dumas of Hebron, Nebraska, Mrs. Norman Elliott of Colfax, California, Mrs. Fred Wilkerson and Mrs. Bunyon Traylor of Waco. Mr. Dumas had spent the greater part of his life in Terrell and Elmo, he having been a rural mail carrier out of Elmo for the past 26 years. He had attained a measure of success as a business man despite his physical handicap. He was a good citizen, respected by all who knew him. Mr. Dumas had long been a member of the Baptist church.
