Published: Friday, July 31, 2009 10:34 AM EDT
The Blackshear Times

A Florida log truck driver has been charged with his alleged involvement in an July 6 accident on Highway 84 that severely injured motorcyclist Jim Frost, 64, of Blackshear.

Cephus C. Lee, 49, of White Springs, Fla. has been charged with improper lane change and failure to maintain lane following several weeks of investigation by Blackshear police.

Lawmen are still looking into the incident, with a possibility other changes could be filed, according to lawmen.

A BPD investigator says while they believe the driver charged is the one involved in the accident based on witness statements and other information, police do not believe the driver knew he had hit Frost.

Frost was traveling next to a log truck heading west on Highway 84 near Trudie Road when witness accounts indicate the truck attempted to change lanes and hit Frost on a 2002 Harley Davidson, throwing him from the motorcycle, according to a BPD report. Frost was recently transferred to a Brunswick hospice facility.

A benefit barbecue for the Frost family of Blackshear will take place Friday, August 28 at Wall's IGA.

Southpit Barbecue, formerly Port-A-Pit, will provide the meals, consisting of chicken plates, potato salad, baked beans and bread. Slabs of ribs will also be available for purchase. The benefit will be held from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

To buy tickets in advance, call Rodney or Marie Sauls at 288-1042 or 286-5292. Proceeds from the barbecue will go to the Frost family.

An account has also been opened for the family at PrimeSouth Bank. Donations can be made there to the Jim Frost Fund.
