Edward Augustine "Big Ed" Walsh
Birth: May 14, 1881
Death: May 26, 1959

Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Plains, Pennsylvania, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut with the Chicago White Sox on May 7, 1904. For fourteen seasons, he played with the Chicago White Sox (1904-16), winning two World Series games in 1906 and played for the Boston Braves in 1917. A skillful hurler, he concluded his career with a record of 195 wins, 126 loss, 250 complete games, 57 shutouts, 35 saves, 1736 strikeouts and holds the major league record for lowest lifetime ERA with a 1.82 earned run average. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946 and died at age 78 in Pompano Beach, Florida. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
