Officer Jeremy Nicholas Henwood, Captain (Major Select) USMC is the son of Dr. Robbie Wayne and Dr. Beverley Lou Henwood.
Jeremy attended Marshall High School in San Antonio and at 15 years old entered the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, where he played football and basketball. In 1995 after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Jeremy completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and returned to San Antonio to attend the University of Texas where he received his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Criminal Justice. Jeremy became a United States Citizen so as to become an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. After college, Jeremy pursued his Marine Corps career. He proudly served his country which included three overseas deployments.
Jeremy had a deep sense of honor, integrity and commitment to both his duties as a Police Officer and a Marine and proudly lived by the U.S. Marine Corps motto Semper Fidelis - "Always Faithful."
On August 6, 2011, Jeremy was on patrol, when a car flashing its lights approached him from behind. When Jeremy pulled to the curb to assist, the driver produced a shotgun and shot him without warning.
Jeremy died at Mercy Hospital. Even in death he proved his commitment to help others through his choice of being an organ donor.
He is lovingly remembered by his family, friends, coworkers and Marine comrades as larger than life, "a 6' 3" Boy Scout", a humanitarian and a man of honor who loved outdoor activities and spending time with his friends and family.
Survived by his parents Drs. Robbie and Beverley Henwood and siblings.
A Memorial Service was held at The Rock Church, 2277 Rosecrans Street, San Diego, CA 92106.
