Ena Baker Twigg
Birth: Jan. 6, 1906
Gillingham
Kent, England
Death: Mar. 5, 1984
Acton
Greater London, England

Clairvoyant and medium. She stated she came from a psychic family. Her parents were Harry and Frances Baker and Ena was the second of four children. She had an older brother, Frank, and a younger sister and brother, May and Harry Jnr., and it was Harry Jnr. whom she especially adored. Ena attended Saint Chrétien School of which she was entirely fond and at 7 years of age she played with what she called "misty people" or spirits. Her psychic ability first made itself known to her when she was 2 and 3 years of age by being able to leave her physical body that had been put to bed in the evening while her spirit travelled down the stairs to see and listen to her family. At 14 she very upsettingly predicted the death of her beloved father. About this time a new neighbour moved in across the road from her home and their son, Harry Twigg, who was a few years older than Ena, began to take notice of her. She enjoyed this attention and they later married. Her husband made the Royal Navy his career and during WWII he experienced much action. Ena travelled to be near her husband wherever he was posted and whilst living in Malta, the home base of the British Mediterranean fleet, had appendicitis. After an operation there at the King George V Hospital, Floriana, she could not recover by medical treatment and grew weaker and weaker. She was transported home to England and when near to death three spirits came to her one Tuesday night -- an old man, a young man and a woman -- who said they would heal her and every subsequent Tuesday night they came and treated her over a period of 6 months and she made a full recovery. She asked them how she could repay them for saving her life and she was told by using her psychic talent to help others as she had been helped. She gladly agreed to devote her life to do this. Ena was the first medium to be accepted by the Christian Church, and the Bishop of Southwark, London, became a supporter and a friend. She was also the first medium to have her own regular programme on the BBC who had been originally opposed to Spiritualism. During this period she enthusiastically underwent many scientific tests and interviews with the media and passed them beyond expectations in spite of much scepticism and constant prejudice. She indeed proved she was one of just a few genuinely highly gifted psychics amongst the many much less sensitive clairvoyants and the numerous cranks and fraudsters. Her great accuracy was the overwhelming evidence. Ena was well received and respected in Britain, America and Europe as an extremely sensitive clairvoyant and was sought after by innumerable people -- many of whom were famous and highly respected. In 1964 she again came very close to death after a severe heart attack but with the assistance of her spirit friends made a miraculous recovery in hospital so she could continue her work to help people in grief by proving their loved one lived on in spirit -- and amazingly without any after-sign of a heart attack on the cardiograph which completely bewildered her doctors. She resided with her husband, Harry, for more than the last two decades of her life at 58 East Acton Lane, Acton, London and an upper room of her modest house was used for her séances.

Her autobiography, "Ena Twigg: Medium" by Ena Baker Twigg and Ruth Brod is extremely inspiring and fascinating. She was probably the most gifted and honest medium of the twentieth century.
