Elizabeth was married to John Harring in New York, abt 1830. He died in 1849, while working, a train related accident. She later married John Demarest in Wisconsin.

DEMAREST -- At her home, 316 Railroad avenue, at 3:45 a. m., Wednesday, February 21st, 1912, Mrs. Elizabeth Demarest, of general debility, aged 98 years, 3 months and 25 days.
Elizabeth van Houten was born in Rockland county, N.Y., October 25, 1813, and spent the early part of her life in that state. She was married there to John Haring and three children were born to them, two of whom survive. They are Peter Haring, who formerly conducted a shoe shop in this city and now resides as Escanaba, Mich., and John Haring of California. Her husband died in the east.
Mrs. Haring and her childen came west in 1854, with her sister, Mrs. Thos. Mackie and husband, and has resided in this city ever since, making her about the oldest of the pioneer settlers, as it is a well known fact that the family of Thomas Mackie was one of the first half dozen that originally settled in this location.
She was married a second time to John Demarest at Watertown in 1855, and they have always made this city their home. One daughter, Mrs. Margaret Weinbrenner, wife of Henry Weinbrenner, was born to them and survives with her father.
The funeral will be held this afternoon from her late home., Rev. J. H. Gagnier and Rev. T. S. Johnson, officiating. Burial at Oakwood cemetery.
Note: She was born in the house where General Lafayette made his headquarters during the Revolutionary War. Her grandfather was one of the heroes of the Revolutionary War.
She had 5 children: Maria, Peter, John, and Isaac Haring, and dau. Margaret Ann Demarest. Maria died at age 6 in NY.
