Country Singer. A native of Orange, California, Smith is best remembered for her singing of Kris Kristofferson's, "Help Me Make It Through The Night." Noted for her husky singing voice Smith also had successes with other recordings including, "So Long Charlie Brown, Don't Look For Me Around," "Then You Walk In," "Today I Started Loving You Again," "Loving Arms," "Days That End In Y," "Norma Jean," "What A Lie," "I Cry When I'm Alone," "For The Kids," "Kentucky," "Long Black Veil," "City Of New Orleans," and "Love Me All Over." Smith was also known for her association with the likes of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Although her last hit recording was in 1986 Smith continued to perform up until February 5, 2005. On February 12, 2005, Smith passed away at her home unexpectedly in her sleep at the age of 61, ironically it was also the the 3rd anniversary of the death of her friend Waylon Jennings.

If you haven't heard Lonely Street by Sammi Smith, please listen to it. A GREATsong and her singing it makes it a GREAT PERFORMANCE. The lady could really sing and she was one of the best artist ever. Sad she is gone, I only recently discovered her!|
