Officer Frederick W. Bauer was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.

Circumstance: Officer Bauer, of the Tenth Precinct was a member of a raiding party of a "number" establishment. While on-duty, he suffered an injury attempting to lift a metal floor safe. He crushed two vertebrae and died three months later from complications.

On March 2, 1929, Officer Bauer had occasion to be on patrol when he heard the sound of gunfire from the area of 34 Logan Place NW. Investigating Officer Bauer came upon the body of Emma Brown in front of 34 Logan Place NW. After entering that residence, Officer Bauer came upon Jeannette Rice, Ms. Brown's daughter who was critically wounded. Their assailant, Mr. Ernest Henderson then attempted to shoot Officer Bauer, misfired and was slain by one of three shots fired by Officer Bauer.

Mr. Bauer an immigrant from Germany who arrived in 1900, was survived by his wife, Emma, 34 years old; sons, Albert 10 years; Charles, 8 years; daughter Marie; 3 years and his Mother-in-Law, Mary F. Wathen, 68 years old; all of the home at 2324 Nicholson Street, Washington, DC.

His daughter, Marie was named Emma Marie, and would marry Henry Sasser Holder, memorial number 62943441. Emma Marie's memorial is: 71131775
