Arthur E. Adams, 62, died of a heart attack here in home in Friendship Community early Friday morning.
Mr. Adams had lived in the Friendship community for 55 years. He was a native of Holly Springs, and member of one of the most prominent East Texas families. He was the son of the late Mr. Willie Adams, and was a nephew of the late C. N. Adams, will known Newton business man.
Mr. Adams was a leader in civic and religious work. He was united with the Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in May 1917, and he and his wife were baptized at the same time even though Mrs. Adams had joined a month earlier. A year later, May 1918, he was ordained as a deacon and has been a deacon ever since.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Miriam Sheffield Adams; 5 daughters, Mrs. Thelma Stanford and Mrs. Margarette Andrews, of Center; Mrs. Floyd Ellis of Carthage; Mrs. Geraldine Woods of Newton, and Mrs. Lee Yawn, of Silsbee; 4 sons, Elmer of Mineral Wells, J. W. of Newton, Hubert of San Diego, Texas, and Alton of the Air Force, stationed in Bermuda; 3 sisters, Mrs. Pleas Davis and Mrs. John Jefferson both of Holly Springs, and Mrs. J. C. Adams of Kerwin; and 20 grand children.
Funeral Services, held up until Alton arrived from Bermuda, were held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Friendship Church with Rev. Alvin Young, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of E. E. Stringer Funeral Home of Kirbyville.
