Maj. Charles Gordon Cloutier, (U.S. A.F. Ret.)
SHREVEPORT, LA - Major Charles Gordon Cloutier, Jr., USAF retired Fighter Pilot, died in Mobile Alabama on October 6, 2011. He was raised in Shreveport, and attended the old St. Vincent's Academy and St. Johns High School. He graduated from LA Tech University in Mechanical Engineering in 1957. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Chance Vought in Dallas prior to entering the AF to attend pilot training. One of his proudest days was the day he received his wings. He flew B-47's during the Cold War, and then became an instructor pilot at Vance Air Force Base (where he had received his wings). He went to F-4 Phantom training and then was stationed at Udorn Air Force base Thailand. He flew 207 missions in the F.4. The plane he flew is now on display at the Air Force Academy. He completed his Air Force career at Barksdale AFB in 1979. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster and the Air Medal with 14 oak leaf clusters and numerous other awards and medals.
He is preceded in death by his parents Tess and Gordon Cloutier, son Douglas Patrick Cloutier and grandson Christopher George Cloutier. He is survived by his wife, the former, Paulette Peterson; son, Charles Gordon Clouter, III; son, Jordy Cloutier, both of Shreveport; daughter, Sharon Montoya and husband, Mike; son, Michael, of Irving, TX; and daughter, Julie Anderson and husband, Col. Mark Anderson and their children John-Lewis and Callie, of Lavaca, AR. He also leaves three sisters, Marilyn Lelong, of Mobile, AL, Sylvia Clark, of Frisco, TX and Dr. Sara Looney, of Colonial Beach, VA.
Visitation will be held at 9 am on Monday, October 10th, at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent's. Msgr. Carson LaCaze presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Douglas Cloutier scholarship fund and George Cloutier scholarship fund at Loyola High School, 921 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA 71101.
