Lawrence E. Bloomquist, 91, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, October 25th, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday October 28th, 2009 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with the Reverend Stephen Peters Officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery with Military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be Tuesday October 27th, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Lawrence Earnest Bloomquist was born on November 2nd, 1917 the son of Elmer and Fannie (Hale) Bloomquist near Callender, Iowa. Lawrence attended school in Fort Dodge. During World War II, Lawrence served in the United States Army with the rank of Private First Class (enlisted into WWII on 19 Jul 1944 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota). In the war he was a rifleman in the infantry and spent time in the Rhineland in Central Europe. For his service he was awarded a campaign medal, 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and 1 year overseas service bar. Lawrence was honorably discharged on December 13th, 1945.

On May 31st, 1957, Lawrence was united in marriage to Helen Irene Wendt in Blue Earth, MN. Lawrence worked as Mechanic for the City of Fort Dodge for 19 years retiring in 1979. On October 13th, 2009 Lawrence traveled to Washington D.C. on the "Honor Flight" accompanied by many other World War II Veterans. Lawrence was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Trinity United Methodist Church, Good Sam Camping club and the Holiday Rambler Camping Club.

Those thankful for having shared in Lawrence's life include Son; Mervin (Verla) Bloomquist of Fort Dodge, Daughter; Marlys McFarland of Cloquet, MN and Step Son; Robert Miller of Tiverton, RI.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife; Helen, parents; Elmer and Fannie Bloomquist, Brother; Paul Bloomquist, Sisters; Violet Ruthart and Frances Lyon and Grandson; Jeff Bloomquist.
