Birth: 1839
Georgia, USA
Death: Oct. 31, 1862
Virginia, USA

Co.D,21st Ga.Inf.Regt.

Sgt. Lewis Tumlin Atwood enlisted in the Confederate States Army on June 27, 1861 in Cedar Town, Polk County, Georgia. He was mustered in Lynchburg, Virginia on July 8, 1861 as a private in Capt. Border's Company, Georgia Infantry. He was 22 years old at the time. On August 28, 1862 he was wounded at Manassas. There were two death dates consistant on his service record, October 31st & November 1st, 1862. Since his father refers to October 31st in several of his letters to the Confederate government it is likely that he received notification from the CSA. Also, the Confederate official also used Octber 31st several times. Lewis was single at the time of his death.
