Rev. Allan Hoben, M.A. Ph.D. was a son of Thomas Hoben of Devon, NB. Entered NB from Gibson,York County, NB in 1891. He received his B.A. from UNB in 1895, his M.A. in 1897, and his PhD. in 1901 from the University of Chicago where he was valedictorian of his class. From 1901 to 1904 Mr. Hoben was Pastor of the Union Church of Waupun, Wisconsin and in the latter year he acted as Director of the Baptist's Students' Guild of the University of Michigan, then in the same year, 1904, became Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Detroit. He left Detroit in 1908 to become Associate Professor of Practical Theology in the University of Chicago where he remained until 1919, during the years 1910-14 he was Field Secretary of the Chicago Juvenile Protective Association, from 1915-17 President of Hyde Park Social Settlement, in April-December 1918, Director of the YMCA 5th Division A.E.F. From 1919-23 Mr. Hoben was Professor of Sociology in Carleton College, and then President of the Kalamazoo College of Michigan until he died in August of 1935. Rev. Mr. Hoben wrote and published "The Virgin Birth", "The Minister and the Boy", and "The Church School of Citizenship".
Mr. Hoben was cremated and his ashes are interred in Stetson Chapel.
April 2010 Kalamazoo College indicated that the vaults that held the ashes were removed by the family. They are unaware of what they did with them.
