Tony Snow

Presidential Press Secretary and News Anchor. Born Robert Anthony Snow in Berea, Kentucky, he grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and went on to become a nationally recognized figure in the news media as a result of two stints in the White House and as a news commentator. In a career that spanned over 30 years, he was a syndicated columnist, editor, TV news anchor and radio show host having worked in nearly every medium. Early in his career he was an editorial writer for the Greensboro Record in North Carolina and then became editor at the Newport News (Virginia) Daily Press, Detroit News and Washington Times becoming a nationally syndicated columnist. In 1991 he became director of speechwriting for President George H.W. Bush until 1993. Returned to the media and became the original anchor of "FOX News Sunday" and also hosted "Weekend Live" and a radio program, "The Tony Snow Show." Also served as the primary guest host of Rush Limbaugh's program from the mid-1990s on and was a frequent commentator on National Public Radio. Beginning in May 2006 he became presidential press secretary for George W. Bush until his resignation in September 2007. Then, after a break to rest, joined CNN in early 2008. Died of complications from colon cancer in Washington, DC. (bio by: Fred Beisser)
