"James C. Kirk Prominent Former Canfielder, Dies"
"James C. Kirk, who would have been 90 years old Jan. 21st. died Wednesday morning at 8:20 at his home, 534 Bryson St. Youngstown. Early in October Mr. Kirk suffered a heart attack but had improved and enjoyed Christmas with his family. Early Monday morning he suffered a stroke, from which he never rallied. Mr. Kirk was born in Berlin Center Jan. 21, 1849, the son of Isaac and Mary H. Kirk, and as a young man of 21 became a partner of the Dr. Jackson Truesdale in a general store in Canfield. Though there were changes in the firm, Mr. Kirk continued in business here from 1870 till 1902 when the firm of Kirk and Arnold ended and Mr. Kirk moved to Youngstown. Since that time he had been an insurance agent for the Medbury-Wilson Co. and in spite of his years continued active till last summer. He was married on May 16, 1872, to Adelaide Kyle, who died Aug. 30, 1930. A daughter Mary is also deceased. He is survived by one son, Fred W. Kirk, who with his wife came from Chicago last August to be with Mr. Kirk. A sister, Mrs. Thalia S. Johnston, of Ravenna, also survives. Mr. Kirk joined Argus Lodge, F&AM in 1888 and served as its Worshipful Master in 1894, being senior Past Master. He also belonged to IOOF lodge of Canfield for 63 years and was a member of Trinity M.E. Church in Youngstown. Funeral services will be held at his residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Dr. Schuyler E. Garth, and interment will be made at Belmont Park cemetery."
