Born March 4, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio to Leo Frank and Ruth V. (Curtis) Schlater. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife; Rosemary (Breitenstein) Schlater, second wife; Betty (Wical) Schlater, sisters; Betty Weiser, Margaret Floyd and Mary Baker, brothers; Robert Schlater and Edward Schlater sister in-law; Mary Lou Schlater and grandson; Michael Schlater.
Leo is survived by his wife; Sheryl A. (Mutschler)Schlater, children; Paul (Debbie) Schlater, Clinton Twp., MI, Pat (Steve) Frantz, Dayton, Jim (Pam) Schlater, Citrus Springs, FL, Debbie (Mike) Dungan, Tipp City, Phil Schlater and fiancée, Lora Slowden, Vandalia, Dee (Kim) Rawlins, Tipp City, Susan (Gary) Reinhardt, Dayton, and Jenny (Bill) Blatterman, Vandalia, brothers in-law; Robert Weiser and Rush Wical along with 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Leo served his country as a Seabee in the United States Navy, was retired from CCC Highway and Holland Express where he was employed as a truck driver. He was the former Fire Chief of Sugarcreek-Bellbrook Fire Department, a member of the Teamsters 957;Retiree Club, served as an usher at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, OH, was a member of the American Legion Post 43, and the Troy Lions Club.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM Monday March 5, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, S. Hyatt St. Tipp City, Father Gene Vonderhaar, celebrant, burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 PM on Sunday at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, Ohio 45371 and one hour prior to the mass on Monday.
