************************************************************

Married 1721 in Chowan Co., NC to Elizabeth Unknown.

************************************************************

Named after his Uncle Henry who died young in 1699.

from A Suppliment to the Welch Journal:

On July 1715 a Patrick Laughley proves in court his right to be granted a certain number of acres of land for importing into Chowan precinct John Welch, wife Elizabeth and sons John, Jr. & Edward. (In other words, Patrick Laughley was given land because he paid for the cost of transporting the Welch family into Chowan precinct.)

John Welch died in 1830 & leaves a will. It names the following children: eldest daughter Sarah, eldest son Edward, son John, Jr. & son James. The will also names his wife Elizabeth & son Edward as executors.

In 1737 Sarah Welch Parker & husband Joseph petition for Joseph Parker to be given admin. of John Welch's estate. Elizabeth is dead & Sarah & Joseph accuse Edward of embezzelment of the estate. Joseph Parker is granted admin.

In 1738 Edward Welch was on a jury in a civil case regarding the failure to pay 10 pounds for a cow & 6 pounds for other services provided. The plaintiff won the case, but the plaintiff nor the defendant are named in my source.

In 1739 Edward Welch sells some land on Stumpy Creek to a John Champin.

In 1741 Edward Welch was on a jury that found John Ward guilty of choking, beating & bruising (assault) John Arline. Mr. Ward was fined 40 shillings plus costs.

In 1751 Edward Welch gives land to Dempsey & Michael Welch.

In 1753 Dempsey Welch is named the admin. of Edward's estate. Edward died intestate (meaning he died without a will.)

Edward, like his father, could not write. He would sign his mark on documents by a rough bold capital "E".
