OSCEOLA - Harriet Elizabeth Smith, 92, of Osceola, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Home in Osceola.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Osceola, with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating. Burial will be in the Osceola
Cemetery. Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Newcomer was born June 28, 1912, in Osceola, a daughter of Wilbert and Elizabeth (McCammon) Smith. She was a 1928 graduate of Osceola High School and went on to teach at rural schools in Polk and Nance counties from 1931-37.
On June 5, 1937, she was united in marriage to Carl Johnson. The couple farmed near Osceola. Following Carl's deah on July 21, 1978, Mrs. Newcomer remained on
the farm and took an active part in its management until moving to Osceola in 1993.
On Nov. 13, 1984, she was married to Lynn "Pug" Newcomer. They spent part of the year in Osceola, and part of the year in Columbus, N.C., before settling full time in Osceola in 1995. She was a member of the church.
Mrs. Newcomer was an avid reader, and animal lover and a sports enthusiast. She
was also a member of the PEO Chapter CN of Osceola, the Gab-O-Lots, and the Tanis Chapter, Daughtes of the Nile.
Preceding her in death were her two husbands; two sisters, Margaret Schweser and Louise Timm; and two brothers, Kenneth Smith and Everette Smith.
