SHAFTSBURY Emile J. Boutin, 76, died April 1, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Bennington, the son of Eugene and Denise (Thibeault) Boutin. He received his education in Bennington. He married Marion Crawford on July 3, 1948, in Bennington. Mr. Boutin worked at Ben Mont Paper Co. and Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass. He later worked at Bijur Lubricating Co. for 22 years, retiring in 1987. After retirement he worked part time for the town of Shaftsbury. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army, 89th Infantry as one of the first company scouts. He saw action in the European Theater and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington, Bennington Lodge of Elks 567, Veterans of Foreign Wars 1332 and American Legion Post 13. Mr. Boutin enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his wife of Shaftsbury; a daughter, Ann Hunt of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; a son, Mark Boutin of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Irene Haskell and Antoinette Silver, both of Bennington; a brother, Edward Boutin of Bennington; three grandsons; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Howard; and five brothers, Rene Boutin, Joseph Boutin, Louis Boutin, Eugene Boutin and Gerald Boutin. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer, and continue from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 10 a.m. with a Mass celebrated by the Rev. Douglas W. Hawkins. Burial will follow in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The wake service will be offered at 5:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Hospice of Bennington County or Bennington Area Home Health Agency, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201. Members of the following organizations are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday evening to conduct their services: American Legion Post 13 at 6 p.m., Veterans of Foreign Wars 1332 at 6:15 p.m. and Bennington Elks Lodge at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
