|Death: ||Oct. 28, 1864|
Thomas was the son of James and Deborah Allen Stockton. The 1850 Adair County, Missouri census records lists their last name as Stogden. James Stogden (age 48) was born in Tennessee and Deborah (age 45) was born in Kentucky and the following children were given: Harriet (age 16), Thomas J. (age 14), Eliza M. (age 11) and Willard P.H. Stogden (age 4). The first three children were born in Illinois and the last child was born in Missouri.
Thomas Jefferson Stockton died of pneumonia in Camp during the Civil War. After Thomas died, his wife Delilah, continued raising their children on a farm near Kirksville, Missouri. There are conflicting information about when Thomas died. His pension records give a death date of October 28, 1864 while two more children, Rosetta (b. 1868) and Charles (b. Apr. 1, 1875), were born after that date. Others give his death date as October 30, 1875.

T.J. Stockton inlisted and served for a year,
Then deserted, but come back and it seems very clear,
That he should have been placed on the roll as before,
But he died under charges, and we saw him no more.
