Roger Lee Smith of Barrington A memorial service for Roger Lee Smith will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. Born May 13, 1947, he died Sunday, March 1, 2009. Roger was born in Elgin and was a graduate of Barrington High School, Class of 1965. He received his BA and MA degrees from the University of Iowa. Beyond his wife, Roger had two passions in life. He loved sporting clays where he was a nationally ranked participant. He also loved his Golden Retrievers, Chase and Cooper and took memorable trips to the "Montana Mountains" and Minnesota lakes with his dogs and Theresa. Roger was a key player in the sales training and marketing teams of Zenith Electronics during its pinnacle years. During his tenure at Zenith he championed the introduction of Consumer Product Videos (CPVs). He also worked with N&A Communications in Los Angeles. While there he was a pioneering leader in expanding the success of CPVs to over 10 million units. His gifts include creative writing, an artist's eye, and a love for teaching sporting clays. Roger will remain in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him. Roger is survived by his wife of 32 years, Theresa; his sister, Sally; uncle, Jack; nieces, Michele and Molly; and nephew, Michael. He was preceded in death by parents, Lee and Opal Smith.
