The Rexburg Standard Journal June 2006.
Virgene Berrett Hirschi, 77, of Salem, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully Monday, June 19, 2006, at her home of natural causes.
She was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Rexburg, to William Theodore Berrett and Harriet Ballif Berrett. She met her husband David J. Hirschi on a blind date. It wasn't love at first sight but on June 26, 2006, it would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Out of all that love grew
seven wonderful children. She and David spent most of. their married life in Kilgore, working hard clearing the land and raising a family. In the fall of 1960 they moved to Salem so her children could attend school
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed being Young Women's Improvement Association president, Relief Society President, but her most loved calling was ward music director so she could keep an eye on her kids. In 1991 she and David served an honorable mission for the church in the Texas Dallas Mission where her love for her Savior and his special achildren grew even stronger. They were called to officiate in the Idaho Falls Temple in June of 1993.
She started working for the Sugar-Salem School District as a teacher's aid then graduated to secretary at the Sugar-Salem High School.
In 1973 she became secretary at Madison High School until she retired in 1993.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of Salem, and her children, Maine' (Clark) Tucker of Roosevelt, Utah, JoLynn (Brian) Davis of Salem, RaeAnn (Roger) Hall of Idaho Falls, Michele (Bryan) Smith off Logan, Utah, Michael (Barbara) Hirschi of Salem, Bill (Denese) Hirschi of Salem, and Cindy (Jeff) Nelson of Riverton, Utah; siblings, Louise Hymas of Plano, Emma Rae (Byron) Gilbert of Orem, Gae (Denton) Birch of Titusville, Florida, Drue (Larry) Brown of Olympia, Washington, Nancy (Jack) Shawcroft of El Csjon, California, Ted (Ion) Berrett of Idaho Falls; a brother-in-law, Gene Barnes of Lewisville; and 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kathryn Barnes; a grandson, Tyrol Hirchi; great-grandson, Hranden Thompson; and a brother-in-law Harold Hymas.
