Shores III, George Washington

George Washington Shores III, 88, born and raised in Milwaukee and a long-time resident of Appleton, left his life on Earth on April 5, 2015.

George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Grace, and he is survived by four daughters, Janet, Allison, April and Holly, and four grandchildren, Greg, Lauren, Madeline and Grace - all of whom loved him beyond imagine.

A very proud United States Marine Corps Drill Sergeant, George served his country in two wars and maintained a deep sense of loyalty to the Marines his entire life.

George began his professional career as a blacksmith with Allis-Chalmers, where he worked for over 50 years, culminating in his final position as Superintendent of Manufacturing at Boliden Allis (Svedala) in Appleton. George was a very dedicated and hard worker with integrity and an amazing work ethic.

He was an avid deer hunter for over 70 years with a special cabin in the U.P., where he spent one week every November with his dearest friends, including his son-in-law, Charles Ball, and his grandson, Greg Ball. He also loved golfing and was a member of the Appleton YMCA.

George will be remembered by many as an incredibly nice and down-to-earth man with a keen sense of humor. George, thank you for being such a sensitive soul. Thank you for being a part of our lives. We will miss you dearly.

An open house will be held on April 9, from 1-5 p.m. at his residence, 1101 Bayridge Rd. in Appleton.

In lieu of flowers, check donations are being accepted by the Outagamie County Dog Park (please note: George W. Shores Memorial, 1375 E Broadway Drive, Appleton, WI 54913).
