Tom was born August 19, 1958 in Rantoul, IL to Donald A. and Shirley A. (Klein) Covey, a military family. He had the privilege of attending schools in California and Japan before his family settled in Sheboygan where he graduated from Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1976 . He later graduated from Lakeshore Technical College's CNC/Tool and Die Program.
Tom and Ann Bernico were married on May 19, 1978 at Holy Name Catholic Church. For seventeen years he was employed in tool and die at K.W. Muth Co and he also worked at Watry Industries as a manufacturing engineer for fourteen years.
On July 28, 2000 Tom and Gabriele Roethel were married in Manitowoc. Currently Tom was employed at Manitowoc Tool and Machine Co. as a manufacturing engineer and cost estimator.
Tom was a diverse individual whose many interests included golfing, bike riding, woodworking, trap shooting, cooking, playing his guitar, and perfecting his yard.
