Julia married Oscar Knox in Kansas about 1885. They moved to Cowles, New Mexico about 1891 where they applied for two separate homesteads. According to an "Application for Leave of Absence" dated 1893, Julia suffered from "a complication of diseases of the lungs and stomach and from reflex sympathy of the heart."

The high altitude in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of New Mexico was a danger to her life, so they moved to California where they could be in a lower altitude and better climate for her health.

The 1900 California Federal Census lists three children, all born in New Mexico, however nothing else is known of them: Fannie C., Ethel E., Oscar.

It is unknown when Julia died, but she is not listed on the 1910 Federal Census with Oscar. A marriage certificate in South Dakota indicates that he remarried in 1905.
