MENTOR, Ohio — A 10-month-old boy starved to death after his mother died, apparently of natural causes, the Lake County coroner said.
Firefighters found the bodies of Darlene Kappelman, 43, and her son, Antonio, after they broke into the apartment Saturday night to investigate complaints about an odor. Ms. Kappelman, dressed for bed, was found in the bathroom. The baby was on his stomach in his crib.
Ms. Kappelman was last confirmed to be alive Oct. 29, when she wrote a check and had medication prescribed.
Coroner said the boy probably died Thursday.
