Carolie Tharp Chappell, 94, of Pensacola died Monday, November 17, 1997.

She was born in Pensacola and returned in 1949 when her former Brigadier General husband, C. J. Chappell, Jr. retired from the United States Marine Corps. She was a faithful member of the Gadsden Street United Methodist Church. Her daughter, Carolyn Chappell Penn, preceded her in death in 1989.

She is survived by her son, C. J. "Bud" Chappell, III of Orlando, FL, six grandchildren, Michael, Spencer and Robert Penn of Orlando, Fla., Katherine White of Forsyth, Ga., William Chappell of Atlanta, Ga and Terri Yates of Birmingham, Ala.; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren all of Orlando, Fla.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:15 p.m. , Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at Barrancas National Cemetery, where she will be buried alongside her husband, with the Rev. C. Edward Britton and the Rev. W. R. Bottoms officiating.
