Lieutenant Colonel of the 31st Regiment of Virginia Infantry, The Army of Northern Virginia. Imprisoned at Johnson's Island, Ohio.

The son of Francis Marshall Boykin II and Hester Ann Briggs Boykin, his ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. His father, General Francis Boykin, was a member of the Virginia Senate. Graduated from V.M.I. in 1856. Wed to Ellen Burton George Boykin. They had five children.
