A teacher that volunteered with the Second Regiment of Virginia Infantry in April of 1861. He was wounded in the arm and chest at Harper's Ferry on 16 October 1861. He was wounded again at Winchester on 25 May 1862 and sent to the General Hospital at Mount Jackson. When he returned to duty, he was detailed as sergeant in charge of ambulances. He surrendered at Appomattox.
