World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. After an unsuccessful Allied attack on the German lines at Belle Vue Spur in Passchendaele during the Third Battle for Ypres, he bravely led his men in another attempt to breach the German lines and was rewarded by the capture of the objective, taking over 100 enemy prisoners and a number of functioning machine guns. Occupying the captured ground and positions he then directed and led his troops in repelling a spirited counter-attack by enemy forces. He drowned in Lac Seul, near Gold Pines, Ontario. Corporal Christopher O'Kelly's body was never recovered. In 2007, a memorial monument was installed in Red Lake Cemetery in his honour.
