Esther Sophia Walter, R.N., age 86, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, August 13, 2011, at the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. Born January 27, 1925 in Erie, Michigan, the daughter of William and Mathilda (Meyer) Huner. She married Harry T. Walter on June 15, 1946 and he preceded her in death on August 17, 2005. Harry and Esther owned and operated the former Birkenkamp Walter Funeral Home. She graduated from Monroe, Michigan High School in 1942 and graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1945. Surviving is two sons, Craig (Ellen) Walter, Toledo, Ohio, Scott (Marilou) Walter, Napoleon, Ohio; one daughter, Jan (John) Haar, Toledo, Ohio. She was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, Anthony (Angela) Marquis, Lisa (Michael) King, Todd (Kristie) Walter, Eric (Amy) Walter, Jaime (Jeff) Stewart and Aaron (Sarah) Walter; 9 great-grandchildren, along with 6 step grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death also by 2 brothers, Fred and Edwin Huner; 3 sisters, Augusta Sahloff, Helen Schwartz and Irma Huner, and "Mickey" their Boston Terrier. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek Chapel, Holland, Ohio, Chaplin Ron Atkins, officiating. The interment will be made during a memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date and time.
