My Dad's only sibling.
My uncle Dewey.

The first Eagle Scout in our town's history. He made the family so proud.

He graduated from Saunemin High School in 1943, and left immediately for the service in World War II.

His mother accepted his diploma at his high school graduation, and she told us when she walked on the stage when his name was called, classmates burst into tears.

He served in both World War II, and the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. Graduated later from the University of Illinois with an Economics Degree.

He was a wonderful father of 2 children, Greg and Jennifer. A very loving husband of Emi, whom he met while stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was my father's only sibling. A beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews.

His first job out of college was working for the Pure Oil Company in Chicago as an economist. Later, he passed the exam to become a stockbroker and worked for Merrill Lynch in downtown Chicago, Illinois for many years. He retired as a Vice President of the company. He and his wife and their daughter lived in Mount Prospect Illinois for many years.

He then retired with his wife to Palm Desert, Arizona from Illinois. He created a scholarship fund for college-bound high school graduates, administered through the Saunemin Illinois American Legion Post #531, before his death. It is still helping students attend college today.

He had a great sense of humor and was a kind man to all of us. We miss him.

~~What a nice surprise to find that Mr. Robert Duran has sponsored our dear uncle! Thank you Robert, I really appreciate your kindness.~~

Gravesite Details

No gravesite. The plaque was placed in error by a group in AZ who didn't know my aunt and uncle's ashes were scattered. A third party found the empty urns which were then buried in a veteran's cemetery in Arizona in a mistaken gesture of goodwill.
