Sgt Adam Frank Benjamin
Birth: Jan. 8, 1975
Death: Aug. 18, 2009
Helmand, Afghanistan

Marine Sgt Benjamin was assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as an explosives ordnance disposal technician. He died while supporting combat operations. Thirty years ago, Adam's fascination with guns began with a dart gun his uncle gave him. During high school, he decided that he wanted to join the military so he joined the Marines right after graduation in 1993 from Garfield Heights High School in Garfield, Ohio. Adam had just finished three tours of duty in Iraq and was on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan. He earned several awards, including commendation medals and achievement medals from both the Navy and Marine Corps. Adam was family oriented and always made time to visit his family, including his 10 siblings when he came home on leave. He last signed onto his Myspace page in May and wrote: "Most people don't understand what we do. I love my job. Yes, I said I love my job. How many of you can say you are right where you want to be at this point in your life? I know I can."
