Officer George was a Police Officer in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He and Deputy Marshal Samuel Lilly from the United States Marshals Service were ambushed 15 miles from Wilmington. The two were returning to a Liquor Still Raid when they were suddenly attacked as they crossed a creek. Both Officers and their Police Dog were shot at close range and all killed.
Four suspects were apprehended. Two of them was father and son. The father and son. Charles and William Stewart, were executed for the crime.
Officer George was survived by his mother, brother, and two sisters.
He had served in the department for 25 years when he was killed in the line of duty at age 52.
