North Carolina counted ten dead and five injured today as the toll of two Sabbath automobile accidents.
Six of them died in Gastonia, where the Crescent Limited Passenger train of the Southern Railway smashed an automobile carrying two families from Mt. Holly, N.C. to the Loray mill district there.

Mr. and Mrs. J.D. McCurry, along with their child, were traveling in a car with Fred and Maggie Parton, along with their three young sons. Mr. McCurry , the driver,attempted to cross the railroad tracks, apparently oblivious to a watchman's attempts to stop him. Upon realizing the train was coming, apparently in a panic, he stalled the car. The young Mrs. McCurry saw the impending crash and she flung her young baby out of the car and out of harm's way. The impact flung all of the occupants out of the car.
Mrs. McCurry was pulled from the blazing wreckage, along with her baby, and they both survived. They had only minor injuries. All other died at the scene. The article describes a horrific scene.
Fred Parton was a employee at Loray Mill.
J.D. McCurry worked for Catawba Spinning Company.
The accident occurred at the railroad crossing near East Baptist Church, Gastonia, N.C.
