Janet, known mostly as "Jessie" throughout her life, lived for many years in Midland, Colorado (near Divide), where she and her husband Jim Lawrie homesteaded a ranch during the 1920's which they called "Fig Leaf Ranch." At the ranch they cared for visitors with illnesses such as tuberculosis. Their brochure said "An ideal spot for recreation, complete rest and recuperation." It was also known as "No Place Like Home" to at least one person who wrote those words on a photograph of Jessie's father standing on a porch with his dog, somewhere on the ranch long ago. Jessie was born in Gardner Village, IL. She married James Lawrie March 16, 1898. They had two sons, Glen Douglas Lawrie, and Kenneth Donald Lawrie. They moved west to Colorado in 1916. Jessie's parents were Romilious Alvero Hiddleson, and Janette Mitchell Finlayson. Jessie lived a long full life, passing away at the age of 93 in 1969.
