She was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, February 16, 1895, daughter of M.V. and Josie McMullin Singleton. She was a former cook at Eubank School and at Walt's Restaurant, and a member of First Baptist Church in Somerset.
"Walt's" was the only restaurant in Eubank with a soda fountain and the kids flocked there," said his sister, Wilma Tucker, a registered nurse at Somerset City Hospital and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for 45 years. Mother (Lelia Singleton) baked pies (for the Eubank restaurant) and people from Somerset went up there in droves," she recalled.
Survivors include three sons, Walter, Wallace, and Charles Singleton; one daughter Wilma Singleton Loeser Tucker; two sisters, Mamie Singleton, Milford Ohio and Cora Young, Lexington; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bluford Singleton, whom she married December 24, 1914 in Lincoln Co.; and five brothers, Edward, Everett, Oscar, Ellis, and Clarence Singleton.
Funeral services will be tomorrow, May 25, at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Browning officiating. Burial will be in the Eubank Cemetery.
