Birth: Dec. 24, 1909
Wayne County
Illinois, USA
Death: Mar. 15, 1963
Pontiac
Livingston County
Illinois, USA

The eldest of 5 of Charles Clifford & Sarah Snelling Martin, he married Mary Alma Hollaway on Dec. 18, 1937 in Elgin, IL. They had three children.

Cliff worked as an orderly at the Elgin Mental Hospital and then found a better paying job as guard at Pontiac Correctional Facility in Pontiac, IL.

He took over the prison store but was struck on the head by a trustee in an aborted prison break. Recovered, he later suffered several heart attacks. His health was aggravated by his heavy cigarette smoking habit.

He had just completed training with police dog, Jeff, when he suffered the final, fatal attack.
